Oy Vey: Enough with the 'Jewish Money' story

First it was a flap, now it's a conspiracy. Tomorrow... the rapture?

That's right it's the little 'Jewish money' story that won't go away.

It started innocently - though idiotically - enough: a McMahon campaign aid tries to give a reporter the scoop on Mike Grimm's out-of-the-district fundraising.

A keen strategy except for one minor detail: the file was called 'Grimm Jewish Money Q2.' Honestly, what the f-- was she thinking?

The aid was swiftly fired (rightfully so) but the story doesn't end there.

Staten Island not alone in Mosque-hating

Staten Island isn't the only place in the US plagued by rampant Islamophobia.

Today's New York Times documents this new fad, spreading across the country like a rabid virus: people crusading against mosques in their communities.

Some of the locations include Temecula, Calif, Murfreesboro, Tenn, Sheboygan, Wis, lower Manhattan, and famously Midland Beach.

But, as the Times found out, all this anti-moderate-Islam rage is not only misdirected but actually causing an increase in the likelihood of terrorist attacks.

Audiometry and Headlocks at the Cup

Sunday matinee anyone?

Well, more like an early evening of music at The Cup on Van Duzer.

Tonight's entertainment is the aforementioned all-star rock group, the Headlocks, playing with the melodic, classically-trained anthems of Audiometry.

The Headlocks are promising a whole set of new songs, and the Cup has, hands-down, the best sound out of all the other local watering holes (not for long), so it's a good time to whip out the new shiz.

As for Audiometry, well, we haven't seen the band play in a while and are anxiously awaiting an LP, EP, anything with strings would fit like a glove on the band's dramatic ebb and flow of intricate melodies.

Jersey Shore's Snooki to pen dictionary for guidos, guidettes

Now anyone can speak like a drunk Italian midget.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Jersey Shore's biggest train wreck is writing a 'Snooktionary' - an epic tome that will explain the various euphemisms and slang terms of your favorite Italian-American stereotypes.

We are not sure what Snooki - or her ghost writer - will include in the 'Snooktionary,' but here are some suggestions.

Elena Kagan sworn in to Supreme Court, leaving Staten Island without a Justice

Elena Kagan was sworn into the Supreme Court yesterday, becoming the fourth woman to serve on the Court.

This also added another New York City-bred judge to the prestigious panel: Sotomayor (Bronx), Ginsburg (Brooklyn), Scalia (Queens), Kagan (Manhattan).

This prompted at least one person to ask the perennial question: What about Staten Island?

Mike Grimm keeps pimpin out the Marines, FBI

In an effort to out-America his opponents Mike Grimm has drawn on his experience in the FBI and US Marines as evidence.

In ads he is seen decked out in camouflage and flashing his FBI agent badge.

The only problem is that using these images in campaign literature and advertising is not kosher with the agencies, mostly because it implies a tacit endorsement.

"We would definitely consider that an inappropriate use," an FBI spokesman told the Daily News about the TV ad.

On the web, Grimm is seen decked out but does not show a disclaimer that the Marines don't endorse the candidate.

"The Web ad is not okay," said Marine Corps Capt. Brian Block.

Maybe Grimm could cite the work he's done for the locals on Staten Island - wait, has he done anything for Staten Island?

March against hate crimes tomorrow

The spectre of hatred still hangs over the borough like a dark rain cloud from an impending downpour.

Local organizations have designated tomorrow as 'Take Back Your Right!' - a daylong show of support for the victims of the bias attack at the Bay Street White Castle

Supported by Council Member Debi Rose and Assemblyman Matt Titone, the event begins with an early morning (2a.m.) show of solidarity outside the fast food restaurant.

So if your hungry late tonight, it would be nice to stop by and join this group - which refuses not to be scared into submission by the hooligan gangs roaming the streets.

Later, in the day the group will be planting a 'healing garden' and holding a candlelight vigil.

Who says nothing happens on Staten Island?

There's so much going on tonight that the Dump has tried to break it all down for you in interests of creating a greater Staten Island.

It's nice to see such a diverse group of acts doing their thing, as always, if we forgot anyone just send us a holla.

There's a superstar line-up for tonight's show at The Rock Shop in Park Slope Brooklyn.

The headliners are emerging Brooklyn indie rockers Shark? but the rest of the itinerary is full of cream-of-the-crop Staten Island-connected acts

The always-entertaining, sometimes-costumed, Rabbits (formerly Dead Rabbits) open up at 8 pm, so get there early. Staten Island's prolific punk band Great Unwashed will be there as well.

And also, AWE's own, music writer Ben Johnson has a band called Conversion Party. Their 2008 album 'More No More' was an overlooked gem - think melodic indie rock, early Spoon.
