Mike Grimm keeps pimpin out the Marines, FBI

In an effort to out-America his opponents Mike Grimm has drawn on his experience in the FBI and US Marines as evidence.

In ads he is seen decked out in camouflage and flashing his FBI agent badge.

The only problem is that using these images in campaign literature and advertising is not kosher with the agencies, mostly because it implies a tacit endorsement.

"We would definitely consider that an inappropriate use," an FBI spokesman told the Daily News about the TV ad.

On the web, Grimm is seen decked out but does not show a disclaimer that the Marines don't endorse the candidate.

"The Web ad is not okay," said Marine Corps Capt. Brian Block.

Maybe Grimm could cite the work he's done for the locals on Staten Island - wait, has he done anything for Staten Island?

March against hate crimes tomorrow

The spectre of hatred still hangs over the borough like a dark rain cloud from an impending downpour.

Local organizations have designated tomorrow as 'Take Back Your Right!' - a daylong show of support for the victims of the bias attack at the Bay Street White Castle

Supported by Council Member Debi Rose and Assemblyman Matt Titone, the event begins with an early morning (2a.m.) show of solidarity outside the fast food restaurant.

So if your hungry late tonight, it would be nice to stop by and join this group - which refuses not to be scared into submission by the hooligan gangs roaming the streets.

Later, in the day the group will be planting a 'healing garden' and holding a candlelight vigil.

There's so much going on tonight that the Dump has tried to break it all down for you in interests of creating a greater Staten Island.

It's nice to see such a diverse group of acts doing their thing, as always, if we forgot anyone just send us a holla.

There's a superstar line-up for tonight's show at The Rock Shop in Park Slope Brooklyn.

The headliners are emerging Brooklyn indie rockers Shark? but the rest of the itinerary is full of cream-of-the-crop Staten Island-connected acts

The always-entertaining, sometimes-costumed, Rabbits (formerly Dead Rabbits) open up at 8 pm, so get there early. Staten Island's prolific punk band Great Unwashed will be there as well.

And also, AWE's own, music writer Ben Johnson has a band called Conversion Party. Their 2008 album 'More No More' was an overlooked gem - think melodic indie rock, early Spoon.

Eltingville man parodies Billy Madison, throws poop at neighbor's door

Remember the scene in Billy Madison with Old Man Clemens in his tighty whiteys.

Well we have a real life version of that here on Staten Island.

The Advance is reporting that Christopher Argentina, 28-year-old-man from Eltingville, was arrested after he threw a bag of crap at his neighbor's door.

Apparently the two neighbors don't get along which led to this glorious act of tomfoolery.

The DA's office said Argentina is being charges with misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, making graffiti, and harassment.

The prank was allegedly captured on video tape, but since it's not available we have a re-enactment below:

Community meeting in Port Richmond

At a community meeting in Port Richmond last night local officials called for unity, announced a ten point plan to battle bias attacks, and implored leaders not to 'fight semantics' about the nature of the crimes.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn joined North Shore Councilwoman Debi Rose, Borough President Jim Molinaro and other civic and social leaders to denounce to recent attacks and announce a definitive plan of action that would go into effect immediately.

The plan calls for education through ads and schools, in addition to working with local groups in outreach, and providing a venue for immigrant victims to come public when they are attacked.

A representative from Al Sharpton's National Action Network was on hand to pledge the group's support and ask Councilwoman Rose to join the 'I AM Staten Island' coalition.

Though he attended, the Borough President, it seems, is still on the fence.

New York Times parachutes reporter into Staten Island

Parachute journalism is a term usually reserved for incidents where news organizations send a naive correspondent into, say, real America, or some far-fung third world country to give a half-assed report without any real knowledge about the actual area or the people that live in it.

But now we have our own example right here on Staten Island.

The New York Times recently sent Andy Newman, who happens to be a decent reporter, to Staten Island for six days to explore the mysterious borough and the results are nothing short of astonishing. (watch here)

How many times should you listen to the new Arcade Fire before saying it sucks?

If you haven't already noticed Arcade Fire released a new album this week. And while the first missive out deemed that it's was pretty good, every other review from mags to local Tweets have called it a boring let-down.

This prodded us to ask if maybe we were jumping the gun on this: How many times should you listen to Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' before you can definitively say that it sucks?

The band's 2004 album 'Funeral' was a grand, melodic shout-fest - a generation-defining piece that stands as one of the most significant albums of that past decade (whatever it's called).

'Neon Bible' in 2007 was a mediocre sophomore effort. Sure it had it moments, but none of those triumphant peaks and cascading choruses we heard on the original.

Now we are given 'The Suburbs' - today actually - and it sounds pretty decent on the first couple of spins. And we are wondering whether the negative pronouncements and tweets about the overall lameness of it may be a little premature.

Good Luck finding Staten Island's Nike Air Force 1 sneakers on Staten Island

Staten Island usually gets the short end of the stick and, more often than not, is beaten with it.

So we were excited to hear that Nike included the forgotten borough in their exclusive series of NYC's Air Force 1 sneakers.

Unfortunately though, the sneakers are so exclusive that they're hard to find at the Island's premier shopping establishment: The Staten Island Mall.
